Lake Thompson, SD Fishing
Midwest, Mid-summer Fishing
July 16 my wife, Kia and I fished Lake Thompson for the afternoon and had a steak at a local steakhouse. There was a cold front with north winds from 10-15 mph. Fishing the south end of the lake, we caught these crappie and walleye and missed a few presenting spinners and crawlers in 12'-14' of water.
Lake Oahe Fishing Report
With the hot humid days into the 90s and low 100s in the Pierre area, walleye are still feeding in deeper water but close to structure. Submerged islands and humps at the mouths of bays, such as the Cheyenne river that feeds into the Missouri are good places to find walleye feeding. Another location I would strongly suggest is Fantasy Island, which splits the main channel east of the mouth of the Cheyenne River. Fantasy Island is a very long structural island. Pulling crank baits, spinners or just a plain hook and crawler can be very productive.
